About the Response

KZN Covid-19: Churches Respond: We are a broad and inclusive coalition of Churches, Christian Associations, Ecumenical Networks and Ministers’ Fraternals committed to using our extensive footprint across the KwaZulu Natal Province to respond more effectively to the Covid-19 pandemic, the Lockdown and their respective impact.

Our work is convened by the KZN Christian Council. The KZNCC is a provincial fellowship of churches and church-based organisations, established in and affiliated to the SACC (SA Council of Churches). Its purpose is to help the churches of KwaZulu-Natal develop a united Christian response to the many challenges of our province.

The work is facilitated by an ecumenical and inclusive Covid-19 Steering Committee. Our plan is made up of five overarching strategies with each being led by a relevant group of experts and practitioners.

Our plan has both a coordinated provincial response, together with guidelines for what this could mean for every church congregation, and ministers fraternal - this local front is at the forefront of our approach. We call on every church and ministers fraternal to set up a Local Ecumenical Action Network (or LEAN) to start responding to the challenges of the community you are in.

The infographic below summarises the approach. Each of the strategies is further unpacked in the

our strategy" tab in the menu.
